Ever been irritated by sand in your bathers while you are having a day on the beach? Ever wished for a compact and truly lightweight folding chair that you could take with you to make the experience more pleasant?

Well, someone has finally done it. They have made “the world’s most portable chair” - ultra light weight and compact enough to fit easily into a beach bag.

The makers gave me one to “test drive” and the editor swallowed my line about “new product research” as I headed for Bondi with a Helinox “Chair One” swinging from my index finger.

The first thing you notice is how incredibly light and compact this “one of a kind” chair really is. My office make up bag is bigger than the tiny "tote bag" the folded chair comes in.  

Setting it up took less than thirty seconds - it almost assembles itself. Helinox make high quality expedition gear - they’ve had plenty of practice at keeping things simple.

I found the empty tote bag an ideal place to stow the iPod and my car keys as I settled down to put my new friend “through it’s paces”. That was just before I went to sleep. Yes . . . it really is that comfortable.

Price is around $120, which is very reasonable for this high quality innovation. Try your local outdoor adventure store but they could soon be in short supply. During my hour on the beach, five people asked me where they could buy one".
